Weight Benches

Weight Benches

The weight bench is essential to your upper body growth and development, and after choosing a power rack, choosing the right bench is your next most important step.

Weight benches come in many shapes and sizes. Some come with supports that hold a barbell, side attachments for flyes, leg exercise attachments, arm attachments (preacher bench attachment) and some have lat stations (an overhead pulley with a wide bar to pull down specifically for upper back development). Some weight benches have no barbell supports, but these tend to be the better benches usually designed for heavier use inside a power rack, half rack or smith machine where the supports are integral with the rack or smith machine. The great thing about racks is that they have adjustable safeties to catch the bar should your strength fail, thus enabling you to train in safety to the maximum on your own. Visit the power rack section for more information on these superior pieces of gym equipment.

If you want to get big and very strong then a good inclining bench, power rack and a good barbell package are the three most essential pieces of equipment you’ll need. This will do for the big five compound exercises (dead lift, squat, bench press, shoulder press and chins) that add serious mass and strength. See also the perfect shopping list section.
